Kids’ Ministry

Kids’ Ministry at Bethel has something for everyone! Starting at 8:15am, it offers a mix of small and large group opportunities in music, art, movement, bible stories, prayer, child care, and more.
We use the Spark-Activate Faith Curriculum for Sunday School ages 2yrs through 6th grade and the Frolic curriculum for birth-2yrs. Kids age 1month-60 months get a monthly e-newsletter covering child development and simple faith formation activities for families. Kids and families check in at the Sunday School Kiosk outside the Sanctuary and then begin in the 9:00am worship service. They are sent forth to Sunday School around 9:10am. Sunday School Leaders take the children to their classrooms upstairs (or to the Nursery for children ages 2-3yrs). Classes are broken into the following age groups: 4K & 5K, 1st and 2nd grades, 3rd & 4th grades, 5th & 6th grades. At 9:45 K4-2nd graders transition to kids choir or child care. Third-6th graders have Sunday School until 10:00am and then either go to kids choir, child care or are dismissed to find their parents.
Kids can also participate in special event days out at Horizons, attend Vacation Bible Camp, and be involved in other seasonal events and celebrations. Watch the events page, church bulletins, the Bethel Weekly and the Bethelite for more information.
Nursery and Child Care
We have a faith-based Nursery on the Sanctuary level for children ages 0-3 years. If adults want to attend adult forums after the 10:00am service, children can stay in child care until 12:15. Children sometimes are taken upstairs to our large motor room to play in Rm 216 in the Sunday School Wing. This space is near the Family Ministry Meeting Room where the Mom’s group meets on the first Sunday of the month or families can have fellowship, bible studies or other meetings during this time.
Nursery and Child care may be offered for special events at Bethel if planned in advance. All children must register for the Nursery, Child Care, Kids Choir and Sunday School before attending. Email paula@bethel-madison.org for more information
Vacation Bible Camp 2024 at Bethel Horizons!

Joyful Noise
Joyful Noise (Children’s Choir) is a child’s first choir experience at Bethel. We sing all types of music, learn to play handbells, and use percussion instruments too! Sometimes we wear costumes and often make our own props to go along with our songs. We’ve learned about faith by singing about frogs, computers, cars, pogo sticks, and many other things! We sing about once a month during worship throughout the year.

Spirited Sound
Spirited Sound (Children’s Choir) takes kids’ musical experiences at Bethel to the next level. We sing a wide range of repertoire from hymns to jazz to gospel and everything in between! We make every piece we sing our own through the addition of movement, instruments, harmonies and sometimes even shouting! Through our music-making we work together to learn how our faith affects our lives in many different ways.

Child Health and Safety
Bethel Lutheran Church posts information regarding child health and safety as a service to members, visitors and other interested parties. Bethel does not endorse any specific product or company.
Due to the number of children who are allergic to peanuts, we ask that treats brought to Sunday School not contain nuts.
Food labels/ingredients may change over time, so it is always recommended that you read the label before purchasing snacks. Please read labels carefully to make sure the products are nut free. This includes labels that read “May contain traces of peanuts/nuts.”
Child Care Options at Bethel:
- A Staffed Nursery for younger children is located just off the Sacred Grounds Coffee House, next to the library from 8:45-11:30am.
- The Children’s Whisper Zone at the front left of the sanctuary is a dedicated space for families who need some room to move and play, but still want to worship.
- Children’s Noisy Nook at the back of Sanctuary.
- Kids’ Ministry on Sunday mornings includes bible stories, skits, games, music, art, movement and happens during the 9am service, followed by large group fun JAM (with parents) from 10-10:30am. Kids’ Ministry has been suspended for the 10:30am service hour until Fall 2022.
