Amy Hartsough
Director of Music

Amy Wilson Hartsough, a Creole-American mezzo-soprano, received her Bachelor of Music Performance (Pipe Organ) cum laude from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and continued her studies at Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, England. In London, she performed at Westminster Abbey and St. Martin-in-the-Fields. In 2008, Ms. Hartsough received her Master of Music (Vocal Performance), followed by her Professional Artist Certificate (Opera) as a Fellow in the A.J. Fletcher Opera Institute, where she studied with Dr. Marilyn Taylor.

Ms. Hartsough debuted with Piedmont Opera in North Carolina, as Annina in Verdi’s La Traviata, and was the mezzo soprano soloist in Mozart’s Vesperae Solennes de Confessore  K. 339 with the Winston-Salem Symphony.  

Alongside her successes in the traditional opera venue, Ms. Hartsough has wide experience in the field of contemporary music, singing German, Chinese and French cabaret from the 1920’s and ‘30’s, as well as arranging and performing Creole folk songs from her mother’s native New Orleans.

Ms. Hartsough won the 2011 Opera Idol competition that is part of the Emerging Artists program of Florida’s St. Petersburg Opera Company.  Ms. Hartsough was a first place winner in the Wisconsin NATS competition during her undergraduate studies, and received the Summer Fellowship Award for music study in Italy from Phi Kappa Phi.  She has also produced and performed art song and cabaret recitals across the U.S. and Europe. In April 2014, she performed the Bach B Minor Mass as part of the Madison Choral Project. Most currently, she has performed with Present Music (Milwaukee), and with Voces Aestetis (Madison). She is finishing a CD project with pianist Joseph Ross and Audio for the Arts. An accomplished accompanist, she has worked with students who have performed successfully with the Milwaukee Young Artist Competition, and the Madison Symphony’s Bolz Young Artist Competition. She is currently the Acting Director of Music at Bethel Lutheran Church, Music Coordinator at Lutheran Campus Ministry, and teaches a private piano and voice studio in the Madison area.
