Afternoon Musicale with Gary Lewis and Amy Hartsough “Soli Deo Gloria” (To the Glory of God Alone)
August 19; 3pm
Featuring the music of Johann Sebastian Bach, Felix Mendelssohn, Gioachino Rossini, and many others, on Bethel’s beautiful Schantz pipe organ. We are using the phrase, “Soli Deo Gloria” because it was often used as a signature after Johann Sebastian Bach’s sacred works. Like the Reformation’s “Sola Gratia” (“Grace Alone”) signified that we are not saved by what we do, so Bach wanted to signify that his work was produced for the sake of praising God alone, and not for bringing glory to himself as a musician.
Sun, Aug 19, 3pm in Bethel’s main sanctuary. Light reception to follow in the Emmaus Room (directly across the hall from the Sanctuary).
This is a concert of thanksgiving and gratitude to God for those who supported the repair of the Schantz whether financially or in any other way, so that in turn, we all are able to give glory to God through our song and our music!
All are welcome!
