Circle of Love
Since 2000, Bethel’s Circle of Love Project has sponsored children from a community center in Borodyanka, Ukraine, which is near the site of the Chernobyl nuclear accident. Eight children, an interpreter and chaperone spend 6 weeks during the summer in Madison with host families from Bethel’s congregation. Medical, dental and vision care, English lessons and outdoor opportunities are provided.
Benefits of this program are:
- Decreased respiratory, infectious diseases and dental problems
- Increased health awareness and participation in sports
- Increased motivation to study
- Increased awareness and participation “on the principles of mutual support, assistance and volunteering” in families, community center programs and church
Our second venture supports dental prevention and care to children in the Borodyanka community. We sponsor training to Ukrainian dentists and provide dental equipment and supplies. With our help, the community center has initiated a children’s dental health program called Tooth OK, with volunteers education schools, orphanages, and community groups.
The Circle of Love project is primarily funded by Bethel’s annual golf outing.
