Lent 2019

Lent, the 40-day preparation period for celebrating the resurrection of Jesus, is a time of growth and change. [Sundays are not counted in the 40 days, because every Sunday is a “little Easter” celebration.] At Bethel, we set apart this time for focused daily Bible reading and prayer; weekly worship, study, and service to those in need.

Join Bethel for its 40 days of Lent with this year’s theme ‘Encountering the Risen Christ: Trauma & Transformation. We have a variety of activities for adults, children, and families. You can pick-up your daily devotional book in the Emmaus Room. Click on the date or topic below to expand different options and more detailed information for that part of our Lent activities.

Lenten Calendar

Our Lenten Calendar will be available beginning Sunday, March 3. It provides daily reflections on the story of Paul in Acts 9 and also other biblical texts from the Lenten Study, “Encountering the Risen Christ: Trauma and Transformation.” There are also reflections on the Psalms read each Sunday in the season, drawn from the devotional booklet, “Lasting Hope: Devotions for Lent” (available at the church). You’ll find opportunities to bring weekly items for the Food Pantry as well as to serve at Second Harvest. Lenten Calendar

Lenten Offering

The Homeless Ministry at Bethel will be the recipient of all mid-week Lenten offerings, as well as the Noisy Can offerings received on Sundays in Lent. For 11 years, Bethel’s community has been an integral force in forming, growing and sustaining the needs of people who are impoverished and/or are without homes. Bethel has been a part of a cooperative process with other faith-based organizations such as Grace Episcopal, First United Methodist, St. John’s Lutheran and The Beacon (operated by Catholic Charities). Thank you to all who help us remain connected and committed to honoring Christ’s imperative to care for the poor.
