On display this Lent and Easter is the Madison Arcatao Sister City Project’s photography art exhibit Via Crucis Stations of the Cross and Stations of the Struggle by Madison Photographer Roland Torres. The images in these photos are of diptychs painted on the walls of the Catholic Church in Arcatao, El Salvador. One part of each of the 14 Stations depicts the traditional station of the cross, telling the story of Jesus carrying the cross to his crucifixion. Next to each traditional image is an image depicting a spiritually related event in the struggle of the community of Arcatao during the 13 years of civil war in El Salvador. It was while on a Madison Arcatao Sister City Project delegation to Arcatao that Roland was inspired to photograph each station.
