Jerry was ordained on July 7, 1968, at Zion Lutheran Church, Caledonia Township, outside of Fremont, WI, as a member of the North Wisconsin District of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod.

He graduated from Concordia Senior College in June of 1964 with a Bachelor of Arts degree.  In the fall of 1964, he continued his theological training at Concordia Seminary St. Louis, MO, graduating with a Master of Divinity degree in June of 1968.  He and his wife Lynn were married on August 14, 1965.  They served his internship at Messiah Lutheran Church in Emporia, KS relating to both the members of the congregation and the students of the two colleges located there. After ordination, they began their ministry at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Nipigon, Ontario, Canada, a predominantly Finnish congregation.

Four years later they moved to Ashland, WI serving the people of Zion Lutheran Church. In 1974 Jerry entered the Clinical Pastoral Education program of St. Luke’s Hospital Milwaukee, completing 8 units of CPE. In the fall of 1976, they moved to Mendota, IL where Jerry served as the Pastoral Director and Counselor of the Wholistic Health Center of Mendota, the rural component of the Wholistic Health Centers established by Drs. Granger Westberg and Don Tubesing. During this time Jerry became a member of the Association of Evangelical Lutheran Church which played an active roll in the establishing of our present ELCA. Also, during this time, he became both a certified Healthy Congregations Facilitator and Trainer and a certified Bridgebuilder working with Dr. Peter Steinke, adapting and applying Family Systems thinking to congregational life. In 1987 Jerry accepted a call to serve, as Assoc. Pastor and then Sr. Pastor of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Elgin, IL. Following 9 years there, they accepted the call as pastor of Holy Trinity Lutheran in Glenview, IL where he enjoyed supervising interns until his “retirement” in 2006. They moved to Stoughton, WI in 2008 and for the past 10 years has served as an interim pastor in several of South Central’s congregations. Jerry enjoys capturing thoughts and feelings in poetry and has “penned” several hymns.

Lynn and Jerry have been blessed with four married sons and seven grandchildren. In addition to attending grandchildren’s activities whenever possible they enjoy traveling, golfing, photography, woodworking (especially woodturning), beekeeping, and reading.
