Annual Prayer Retreat                                                                                     January 13 - 15

Join Pastor Peter Narum as we explore the path and experience of contemplative spirituality, using Fr. Richard Rihr's book, Everything Belongs, as our guide.  This retreat is designed as a time for prayer, renewal, self-exploration, silence, and rest.  Pleaset note: this is a 2-night retreat.  Cost is $80.  We mieet Friday from 7 p.m. to Sunday 1  p.m.

 

Annual Woodland Winter Retreat (for the Separated or Divorced)                     January 20 -  21

Meeting weekly since 1985, Bethel Lutheran Church offers support to those experiencing marital separation or divorce.  We also offer an annual retreat for anyone going through the divorce process.  This year's topic is Forgiveness: Setting Yourself Free.  Cost: $60   We meet Friday at 7:00 pm. through Saturday at 6:00 pm.

Annual Men's Retreat: Silver Screen Stories                                               February 24 -  26

Join Padre Pedro and Pastor Peter from Bethel as we explore and reflect on discipleship, using Pastor Michael Foss' book, Real Faith for Real Life, as our guide.  This retreat will help prepare us for Bethel's Lenten "40 Days of Spiritual Renewal."  Translation from English to Spanish available.  Cost: $60    We meet Friday at 7:00 pm. through Saturday at 6:00 pm.

Latino Retreat - Lutheranism: Reformation and Action                            March 10 -  12

Come join other Latinos from Madison as we gather together in fellowship, worship and enlightenment of the reforms in the Church of Christ through the ages and how many have been led into action fo rGod's kingdom through the Lutheran reformation movement.  Learn about Bethel Horizons through hiking, campfires and more.  Program options for all ages on Saturday.  The retreat begins with supper at 6:00 pm. on Friday until 8:00 am. breakfast Sunday.  To register, please contact Pastor Suarez or Aura at Bethel Lutheran Church at 608.257.3577 ext. 337.

Annual Couples' Retreat                                                                                  March 17 - 18

 As this year's couples retreat takes place during Lent, we will explore Marriage as a Path of Discipleship: how commitment and conflict provide a path of spiritual growth, and how Christ's call to "love your neighbor" and command to forgive are lived out as husband and wife.  Cost: $120 per couple.  We meet Friday 7 pm through Saturday 6 pm.

Bethel Annual Women's Retreat                                                                         May 5 - 6

Women of all ages are invited to participate in a weekend retreat celebrating "Spiritual Balance."  A keynote speaker will be featured on Saturday and workshops will include: guided hikes, prayer, wellness, crafts, yoga and much more!  Opportunities for self-guided hiking, massage and naps will be provided.  Please contact Pastor Katie Baardseth for more details at 608.257.3577 or katieb@bethel-madison.org.  Starts with 6 p.m. dinner on Friday through dinner on Saturday with Sunday option available.  Cost: $75

Spring Festival                                                                                                         May 7

Enjoy the new green leaves, the beautiful flowers, and a magnificent view.  Come out for an afternoon with guest speakers/entertainers, games, crafts, and hikes.  Explore the Nature Center, the trails, the new Greenhouse, and enjoy breaking out into nature after the long winter.  The festival is free of charge and snacks will be available all afternoon.  Please call Eric Volden at 608.257.3577 x 337.  Cost $80

 

Latino Retreat - The Cost of Discipleship                                                     May 12 -  14

Bikeathon                                                                                                        June 3

Join in our 21st annual Bikeathon to benefit the year round naturalist and environmental education programs of Bethel Horizons. You're invited to bike or hike the Military Ridge trail from Verona to Dodgeville… or any portion of it. All participants will receive a T-shirt and lunch, snacks and drinks along the way, and an evening meal at Bethel Horizons as well as free overnight accommodations. Fantastic prizes are also available to all who raise funds. Shuttles available as well. Join us!!

 

Congregational Picnic                                                                                                June 4

Join hundreds of Bethel members as we celebrate our 150th church anniversary with a special picnic day at Horizons. We'll focus on our historic Norwegian past and our contemporary Latino present. The day begins with Latino worship at 10:30 am. Enjoy the traditional chicken BBQ as well as pie and ice cream. Then enjoy numerous programs related to our heritage… past and present. Music, hikes, hayrides, children's games and an active Art Ventures site will be part of this special day. The cost: food.


KILN Building Residency Phase One - Foundation                                  June 4 - 9

David Smith, Master Kiln Builder will instruct participants about the workings of an anagama kiln during the construction of an actual kiln onsite.  Cost $375 per person.  Includes room, board, instruction, use of studio space and wheel for work on your own.
 

Communing with Clay                                                                                                      June 11-16, 18-23

Don Hunt, Bethel Horizons Art Ventures artist, will lead this creative wheel pottery workshop designed for beginner to advanced potters.  Visits to local artists, guest artists and a visit to American Players Theater complement the time spent creating personal art. Cost: $375 per person includes room, board, instruction, two bags of clay, use of wheel and a play at American Players Theater.  University Credit is available for an additional fee.  Please email Angie at bhorizons@bethel-madison.org for an application to apply.

 

All Church Family Camp                                                                                       June 16 -  18

Relax… swim… canoe… throw pots… enjoy the adventure course… visit with a pastor… it's all part of a weekend of choices at Horizons' all church family camp. Choose where you want to sleep… the Prairie Center, the tepees, and the tent/trailer grounds are available. This is designed to truly be a time away… with little schedule. Forest Finds                                                                                                             June 29-30

This workshop will focus on forestry education.  Using ideas from LEAF, learn how to utilize a school forest or park and find information to help create lesson plans.  We will work on tree identification, forestry practices, games, activities, and curriculum ideas.  Bethel Horizons registration fee: $55.  (Great food and lodging available at additional cost.)  Continuing Education Credits are available through UW-Platteville for an additional fee.  Please call Eric Volden at 608.935.5885 or email Angela at horizons@mhtc.net for more information.

KILN Building Residency Phase Two - The Arch and Environment               July 2-7

David Smith, Master Kiln Builder will instruct participants about the workings of an anagama kiln during the construction of the arch.  The workshop will also include environmental landscaping of the kiln area and studio work time.  Cost $375 per person includes room, board, instruction, use of studio space and wheel for work on your own.  Clay materials and firing are extra. 
 

Bethel Family Pottery Weekend                                                                        July 7-9

Intergenerational workshop especially for beginners.  Explore creating in clay - both wheel and hand building.  No experience is required.  Workshop is designed to bring families together with clay.  Participants will stay and eat in the Prairie Center.  Cost $300 per family/ $100 per person includes room, board, instruction and materials.  Clay materials and firing are extra.  (Begins July 7 at 5 pm to July9 at 12:00 noon.)
 

Art Ventures Summer Professional Studio Anagama Kiln Building                         July 9 - 14

Be inspired by and have professional dialogue with our Featured Artisit, Don Reitz.  This week is designed for serious students and professionals to use a state-ot-the-art ceramics facility to create their own statement in clay.  Our 3,000 square foot facility is equipped with 30 potter's wheels, slab rollers, clay extruders and gas, electric and raku kilns.  Firing is extra.  Artists must bring their own clay body.  Lodging and meals included.  Cost: $375

 

Latino Retreat - Negotiating Our Conflicts                                                            July 21 -  23  

Improve your communication skills with your loved ones at the same time as you explore the hills and valleys of Horizons, where we will hike, create art, enjoy campfires, swim at Governor Dodge State Park, and more. Working with Horizons' staff, youth and adults will create memories for a lifetime. Wild About Birds                                                                                            July 20-21

This workshop will focus on using birds as a subject in your classroom.  We will learn about bird behavior, bird identification, bird songs, migration and creating lesson plan ideas and games.  We will look at the big and the small and even meet a few birds up close.  Bethel Horizons registration fee: $55.  (Great food and lodging available at additional cost.) Art and Faith in East Central Europe                                                       August 5 - 19

A trip with a new twist in that our hosts are former Bethel Horizons international staff.  Stephanie in Poland and Slavka in Slovakia will host our 4th ARt and Faith trip.  Berlin, Dresden, Wroclaw, Krakow, Prague, Bratislava and Vienna are some of the cities we visit along the way.  Led by Pastor Duane Hanson and Don Hunt.  Call Angie at 608-257-3577 x 228 for a brochure.

Latino Women's Retreat  - Learning from the Bad Girls of the Bible?                November 3 - 5

Led by Aura Suarez and Rev. Annual Enneagram Retreat -  The Enneagram of Parenting                                 November 17-18

This year's theme is on the Enneagram and Christian Faith, where we will explore the Enneagram through Bible characters, parables, and Christian theology and spirituality.  Basic knowledge of the Enneagram is helpful.  Contact Pastor Narum for Fall class offerings and resources.  Cost is $60 per person.  We meet Friday 7 p.m. through Saturday 6 p.m.
 


Art Ventures
