The Bethel Choir will lead worship with great choruses from famous choral works with orchestra. The opening chorus brings the Advent message with “And the Glory of the Lord” from Handel’s beloved MESSIAH. We are told of the birth of the Holy Child, followed by the angels’ outburst of joy in Handel’s “Glory to God.” The celebration of that event continues with the sparkling orchestration and the choir crying out, “Nowell, Nowell, Nowell! Hodie Christus natus est! (Today is Christ born!!!)” from the magnificent score of Vaughan Williams’ HODIE.
Following the sermon, we continue with the “Fantasy on Old Christmas Carols” by Gustav Holst, composer of the famous tone poem, “The Planets.” This festive piece tells the Christmas story overlaying “God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen,” “God Christian Friends, Rejoice” and “The First Noel.”
The service concludes with the final Chorus from Vaughan Williams’ HODIE, “Emmanuel, God with Us! - Ring out ye crystal spheres . . .!” It’s like a grand musical fireworks display! The many bells, the harp, with all of the woodwinds, brass and timpani joining with the choir will raise a glorious anthem of praise to God as we worship that day.
