Baptism
Baptism is the means by which God makes sons and daughters. In Holy Baptism our gracious heavenly Father liberates us from sin and death by joining us to the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. We are born children of a fallen humanity; in the waters of Baptism we are reborn children of God and inheritors of eternal life. By water and the Holy Spirit we are made members of the Church, which is the body of Christ. As we live with him and with his people, we grow in faith, love, and obedience to the will of God. (The Baptismal Liturgy)
Adults who wish to be baptized are instructed prior to baptism. Parents who wish to have their child baptized into God’s family at Bethel need to do two things: 1) attend a one-session class, "What Is Baptism?", which is offered the second Sunday of each month and led by one of the Bethel pastors, and 2) meet with the pastor who will be baptizing the child/ren. If you are not presently a member of Bethel, you may attend the baptism class, but must meet with the pastor prior to selecting a date for the baptism. Pre-registration for the class is helpful.
Adults who wish to be baptized need to meet with a pastor, through the New Member Classes, or privately.
Baptisms are a part of the service on the second and fourth Sundays of each month, at the 9:15 and 10:45 service, or at the Saturday evening service the preceding evening.
